What’s that noise, you ask? Oh, just the sound of our little community exploding.
No matter how you found us, I couldn’t be happier to have you here. Every Monday and Thursday, you can count on me to deliver a blend of proven academic research and real–world experiences that make it easier to live a healthy life.
Of course, I’m not the only one who can help. There are thousands of brilliant members in our community (many of them are much smarter than I am!) and they can help you achieve your goals as well.
In fact, let me tell you a little bit about who we have in our community, how they can help you, and how you can connect with one another.
What Type of People Are in Our Community?
When I say there are amazing people in our community, I’m not lying. Here’s a brief sample of members that have personally connected with me via email…
We have Ivy League graduates. We have physicians with over 30 years of experience. We have entrepreneurs who have built (and sold) million dollar businesses. We have people who have struggled with addiction, weight loss, anxiety, and depression … and broke through the door to the other side!
We have parents who want to lead by example and live a healthy life for their children. We have dozens of people who have lost over 50 pounds. We have vegetarians, followers of the Paleo Diet, and people who grow their own food.
We have certified fitness professionals from CrossFit, Olympic weightlifting, powerlifting, and pretty much any segment of the fitness spectrum you can imagine. We have competitive bodybuilders, weightlifters, triathletes, and marathoners.
Basically, if you have a question about something related to living a healthy life, then there is someone in our audience who has done it, knows about it, and can answer it.
With all of these amazing people at your fingertips, let’s talk about three ways that you can connect with each other and get more out of our amazing community.
1. Share your ideas and questions in the comments
I realize that not everyone wants to comment on a public article, but I promise you that our comments section is one of the most welcoming on the Internet. We haven’t had any trouble with people acting like jerks, but if we did, I would personally remove them.
If you’re willing to be just a little bit vulnerable and share your question in the comments, then I can promise you that you’ll find all sorts of helpful people who are willing to answer.
Check out the comments on this article and this article where members of our community not only left their own comments, but also responded to one another, traded ideas, and offered suggestions and tips from their own experiences.
That’s what a community is all about! Everybody benefits from interactions like that.
From the very beginning I have said that what separates this website from other places online is the community. We’ve got each other’s back. The comments section is the perfect place to engage with each other, ask questions about certain topics, and share your knowledge with people who can benefit.
The comments are also a place where you are welcome to correct me or offer a suggestion about something I didn’t think about. I do my best to write with a blend of proven science and real–world experiences, but I’m learning how to become better each day. Your criticism helps me improve and is welcomed on my end.
Summary: Join our community and leave a comment when I send you an interesting article. We have brilliant people from every corner of health and wellness in our audience. If you take the first step and join the conversation, then you might be surprised who reaches out to help.
2. Join the Conversation on Twitter
Twitter is amazing. I’ve been using it for years to share ideas about health, happiness, and living a better life. I’ve slowly developed a large group of followers, but it’s not the numbers that blow me away. It’s the quality of the conversation.
The other day, I asked for books that had proven science against the Paleo Diet. (I like Paleo, but I just wanted to hear all sides of the nutrition argument.) Check out the responses. Within minutes, I had a handful of books that provide great counter arguments.
More importantly, other members of our community jumped in on the conversation so that they could learn new things. One follower named Jasica said, “I want to be on this thread in case you get a response. I am curious about this, too.” A few minutes later she responded to say that she downloaded one of the books someone else suggested.
How awesome is that?
These types of interactions happen all the time on Twitter. For example, I often ask questions like the one above and all sorts of smart people respond. In the future, I’m also planning on hosting a live Q&A session on Twitter, where we will have a roundtable of sorts with other experts. It should be an awesome way to learn and meet others.
Summary: Follow me on Twitter and feel free to reach out with questions, comments, or suggestions for myself or others. When I ask interesting questions or start a conversation, join in! You’ll discover new people who are interested in the same things as you and you’ll also find resources to helpful books, articles, and more.
3. Come to a Live Meetup!
I’ve been dreaming about this one for awhile.
How cool would it be to have a live meetup with other members of our community to discuss a certain strategy for living a healthy and fulfilling life? We could start by covering the science and research that makes certain tactics work and then finish by sharing ideas for implementing it in real life.
And most importantly, you could connect with other people who have the same goals as you. Looking for a lifting partner? Find one at our meetup. Wish you had more ideas for healthy meals? Trade recipes at our meetup. Want to learn more about sticking to healthy habits? Get book recommendations at our meetup.
Bringing our community together face–to–face is a huge goal of mine. The people that you surround yourself with play a major role in your life. This is especially true if you have a goal that you want to achieve. Those who have already walked through the fire can help you do the same.
Summary: I don’t have all the details figured out for these meetups, but I can tell you that they will be coming soon. If you’re excited about meeting with members of our community who will inspire you and help you achieve your goals, then contact me and we’ll figure out how to get one set up in your city. Plus, I’d love to hear your ideas about what would make them a success.
Our little community is already filled with incredible people, but I can assure you that this is just the beginning. I can’t wait to further our mission, meet you face–to–face, and help our small corner of the world live well and do good.
