Announcing The “Become a Writer” 30-Day Challenge!

Welcome to November!

At this time last year, I decided to start writing a new article every Monday and Thursday. What has happened since then has been unexpected and totally awesome. We have a community of more than 27,000 people reading each week, over 100,000 people visit the website each month, and more than 1.5 million people have read my articles this year. Of course, I’ve made a ton of mistakes and written terrible articles along the way as well, but I can safely say that starting this blog has been one of the best decisions I have made.

Because writing each week has been so valuable for me, I want to challenge you to also follow a writing schedule … for the next 30 days. There is no pressure to participate (I’ll return to regular posts on Thursday), but my hope is that this challenge will help you kickstart the consistency that is so important for making long-term progress on your goals.

I’m calling this The Become a Writer Challenge.

Here are the details…

Our Community: What Happens When You Surround Yourself With Amazing People?

The last 10 months have a been a wild ride for my little corner of the internet.

I decided to write my first post about starting before you feel ready, which seemed appropriate given that I didn’t feel ready to start sharing my work publicly. At the time, I only had a handful of readers (thanks mom!).

But as of today, you are one of 21,762 awesome people who have decided to join the free newsletter and become part of our team.

As our community has grown, I’ve given some thought to what unites us together, what we believe in, what we’re working toward, and what the next step is for this little website.

Here’s the deal…

Why I Hate the Typical Approach to Health (And What We’re Doing Differently)

I’m sitting here at my kitchen table after spending the last 24 hours bouncing across the country (hopping from Portland to Chicago to Cincinnati on a long day of travel). It was a day of modern adventure filled with taxis and planes and cars with dead batteries.

In other words, I’ve had a lot of time to think today.

…and I’ve been thinking about you.

More specifically, I’ve been thinking about what you and I are building, the type of community that we are creating here, the problems I’m trying to help you solve, and the ideas and values that we believe.

As I thought about these things, I began to realize that I don’t like the typical approach to health, fitness, and wellness.

Here’s why…

The Next Step for Our Community (Which Name Do You Like More?)

For months now, we’ve been using the word superhuman to describe the members of our little community.

For our purposes, a “superhuman” is an otherwise normal person who pushes beyond their typical capabilities. It’s about using the science of habit formation and behavioral psychology to improve your mind and body, and make the previously impossible your new normal.

I already write about these ideas every Monday and Thursday, but I want to help you achieve your health and life goals in other ways as well.

For example, the Superhuman Meetups are one way to extend our mission. And in the future, I’m imagining things like online training programs, a forum, conferences, and more.

My goal is to create a company, a community, and a movement that makes the world a happier and healthier place. And this thing needs a name.

Bringing our mission together with the “superhuman” concept, I’ve narrowed it down to two options…

Option 1: Superhuman Medical
Option 2: Superhuman Health

I could choose one, but I’m just one man with a tiny brain. This is your movement too and I’d love to know which one you like.

For a company that hosts events and creates products to help people live healthy, which name do you like more: Superhuman Medical or Superhuman Health?

Leave your answer in the comments below.

Announcing Superhuman Meetups! (Change Where You Are, Not Who You Are)

Good leaders are like good farmers.

A good farmer doesn’t make plants grow. He plants them in an environment where they can grow themselves.

For the farmer — and the leader — it’s about climate control. In certain climates, certain ideas flourish. Certain skills are cultivated. Certain plants grow.

For leaders, it’s about creating an environment where the mission can grow, where each team member can blossom, where the right skills are cultivated, and where each person can become a leader in their own right.

That’s exactly the type of environment I’d like to create for our small community.

Here’s how it’s going to happen…

What’s that noise, you ask? Oh, just the sound of our little community exploding.

Over the past 7 days, hundreds of new members have joined our ranks. Many of you came from interviews or articles on Fat Burning Man, The Huffington Post, and Lew Rockwell.

Welcome everyone!

No matter how you found us, I couldn’t be happier to have you here. Every Monday and Thursday, you can count on me to deliver a blend of proven academic research and real–world experiences that make it easier to live a healthy life.

Of course, I’m not the only one who can help. There are thousands of brilliant members in our community (many of them are much smarter than I am!) and they can help you achieve your goals as well.

In fact, let me tell you a little bit about who we have in our community, how they can help you, and how you can connect with one another.

You Are Not Alone: How a “Keystone Community” Makes All of Your Goals More Achievable

This has been a great week for our community here.

Thousands of new readers joined our ranks, many of which came from other wonderful websites like Lifehacker, Man vs. Debt, and Nerd Fitness. (Welcome everyone!)

New readers excite me because whenever someone new joins our cause, our entire community gets stronger. And the power of community cannot be overstated: the people you spend time with can lengthen your life (or shorten it), can make your goals seem achievable (or impossible), and can fill you with energy (or suck it out of you).

In other words, the people around you are either your greatest asset or your greatest challenge.

Let’s talk about how the people around you can impact your health, what makes the right type of community so powerful, and how you can surround yourself with the type of people who can help you achieve your goals — no matter what they are.

The 10 Pillars of Our Community

This is the third week that this website is alive and kicking. And because this party is just getting started, you may be wondering, “What is this website and why should I pay attention to it?”

I have big plans for what is to come, but underlying all of these ideas is a common set of values and beliefs. My one, unwavering goal has always been to amplify the success of a small group of people who share our values. And to that end, I want to unite the people who believe what we believe.

How do you know if you believe what we believe? Just read the 10 Pillars of Our Community listed below. These 10 Pillars will drive our community. If you like these ideas, then you’re going to love it here.
